Shortcuts to Success

“Let me say how impressed I was with your editing. I was curious to see how an editor goes about trying to convey another writer’s thoughts and emotions and I think you did a great job.”

Alexandra Reynolds, Gold Leaf Press client, author of Full Circle, [work in process]

Editorial Development

“No book is written, it is edited.”
Max Perkins (Editor of Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald and Thomas Wolfe)

“There would have always been the man Thomas Wolfe, but without Max Perkins, there never would have been the writer, Thomas Wolfe.”
Thomas Wolfe

Even if you have a Master’s degree in English Composition, your work still needs to be professionally edited. But please note there is a difference between copy editing and developmental editing. The former can be done by a friend or relative adept in English grammar, but the latter must be conducted by a professional who has working familiarity with trade or academic literary devices and style, pedagogy, authenticity of language and vernacular and most importantly, ensuring your work is developed and presented in such a way that it speaks to and impacts your intended and potential readership and markets.

Phase I - Gold Leaf Press conducts a 4-tiered editorial assessment of your manuscript (it does not have to be completed; drafts, proposals or even concepts are perfectly acceptable at this level) and reviews with you the type and degree of development and editing it may require in order to fully prepare it for submission, publication and the market. This assessment also includes a mechanical composition, sales, marketing and publishing overview so you gain an understanding of your options and the next steps to take to maximize your chances for success. Fee: $195

Phase II - Rebecca J. Ensign, Publisher, Gold Leaf Press, works with you, one on one, throughout your manuscript's development - to the extent needed or requested - to develop, revise and proof your manuscript so it is formally prepared for Agent or Publisher submission, publication or self-publishing. You choose the degree of involvement, thereby managing the amount of money you spend on this Phase.  Fees:  Hourly rate ($50 to $75 per hour).  The fee scale and estimated total are determined after the initial assessment described above.
